Scotland’s Finest Magician

Both Sides of the Footlights
CAMPBELL McRAE
CONTINENTAL PALACE, HULL
N the first of his two ' spots ', Campbell McRae opened in evening dress with the dancing cane, went into Scotty Lang's cut and restored rope routine and followed with a smooth version of Vernon's Symphony of the Rings. He closed with that beautiful floating ball routine which has long been admired north of the border.
His second appearance epitomized the billing of ' Superb Sorcery in Scottish Style ' and, in full-dress Campbell tartan, he cut a magnificient figure. This essentially manipulative offering opened with the Miser's Dream and packed a wealth, of excellent magic into nine minutes. Dove productions, ball to cane, ball productions and colour changes, card fans and ' interlocked ' productions followed in rapid succession and were punctuated by offbeat appearances of showers of coins. A torn and restored paper bearing thistle emblems led to Snowstorm in China (Scotland!) which closed the act.
Frances was an efficient and unobtrusive assistant, and the Scottish stage setting was both colourful and pleasing. The hardened Continental patrons were enthusiastic in their approval of this delightful act

The Campbell Macrae
STACK OF FISHBOWLS PRODUCTION
Believe it or not, this is DIFFERENT. A really BRILLIANT NEW IDEA has been applied to this classic effect, and is guaranteed to bring you more applause than any other effect in your act.
Invented by Scottish magician, Campbell Macrae and performed by him all over Great Britain, both live and on television, this is the first time this has been offered for sale.
Why is the Campbell Macrae method DIFFERENT? Because, FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME EVER, you can release the fishbowls, ONE AT A TIME, or TWO AT A TIME, or YOU CAN PRODUCE A STACK OF THREE FISHBOWLS FULL OF WATER WITH LIVE GOLDFISH SWIMMING AROUND IN THEM, and then as you step forward to acknowledge your applause, you can then, PRODUCE A FOURTH FISHBOWL FULL OF LIVE FISH in your hands. The apparatus can, of course, be used to produce a complete stack of FOUR FISHBOWLS on the floor should you wish to do it this way.
The apparatus is SILENT and SURE. When working theatres, Campbell Macrae uses TWO SETS and produces FOUR FISH- BOWLS one at a time on the floor, and then steps forward and produces a complete STACK OF FOUR FISHBOWLS all sitting on top of each ather, bringing his act to a BRILLIANT CLIMAX.
All four fishbowls are made of PLASTIC, which ensures that you will not have any breakages, AND REDUCES THE WEIGHT, which has, in the past, presented difficulties.
EVERY SET OF FISHBOWLS COMES TO YOU IN A
SPECIAL WOODEN CARRYING CASE.
Full instructions included. Price £12/12/- plus carriage.
CAMPBELL MACRAE (JIM COOK)
A true bonny Scot! He is not only a first
class close-up magician, but has a delightful
stage act in which he performs in full Scot-
tish costume. Staggering in this respect is
the change of a dove to silk while kilted!
CAMPBELL MACRAE’S RING COUNT
Jim Cook, who is one of the world's
natural magicians, showed me his
version of counting off the rings in
the linking ring effect some years
back. I found it one of the most con-
vincing methods that I had seen, free
from any swinging of arms or equally
unnatural moves.

THE CIVIC RECEPTION ( Reported by Fabian)
Events of the weekend were shared between the HQ hotel, the Pier Pavilion, the Winter Gardens and the Town Hall, all of which could be covered in a 10-minute walk. It was at the Winter Gardens that the civic reception was held on Wednesday evening. Guests were welcomed by Councillor W. F. Blackborow, Chairman of the Llan-dudno UDC, and his wife, who were accompanied by President and Mrs. Paul Graham. This too was a happy affair, with dancing to the music of Rowland Mott and his orchestra, a good musical programme by the Llanddulas Male Voice Choir and a splendid programme of magic by Campbell McRae. breaking into his honeymoon on our behalf. Immaculately attired in Scots custume, he featured silk and dove work, beautifully presented, and fooled everyone with a beautiful bare-hand vanish of a single dove at the close.
